While I didn’t actually spend any money out of pocket, for the purpose of this experiment I traded in 6480 Primogems I got from miHoYo or earned in game (the amount you’d get for spending $50 for the first time) for 20 Acquaint Fates and 20 Intertwined Fates. So, how many characters can you unlock with $50 in Genshin Impact? That said, if it's your first time buying Genesis Crystals you’ll get double the amount, so for instance, spending $50 will get you 6480 Crystals. If you’re low on Primogems, you can buy Genesis Crystals for real money, which can then be traded for Primogems on a one-to-one basis. 160 Primogems gets you one Acquaint or Intertwined Fate. These Fates are purchased using a currency called Primogems, which can be earned in game. There are currently four different Banners, with two requiring Acquaint Fates and other two requiring Intertwined Fates. You buy Wishes with either “Acquaint Fates” or “Intertwined Fates,” with one Fate getting you one Wish. Each Banner offers different characters, weapons, and rules, which you can check on at any time. You unlock characters and weapons by buying “Wishes” (essentially randomized loot boxes containing a single item each) from one of several different “Banners”. If I spent $135 on this game, I get 282 minutes of content for every dollar I have given to the developers. Personally, that's above the max time I've ever given in a Pokemon game, which I pay $30-$60 for maybe half of the amount of time. 3.5 years is 1,270 ish days, right? If I only gave half an hour per day, that's 38,100 minutes of time or 635 hours of gameplay. For me, even though I've spent a similar amount, I've been playing since launch, playing daily. How many hours of your time have you spent in the game? How much is your labor worth per hour? Likely you've given more than 2 hours of time, which means you're definitely less than a dollar per minute. You support the content you wanted to, you helped keep the game f2p and alive for many other people to enjoy, hopefully you got a unit or two in exchange, and above all, money is a social construct and has only the value we decide it has. It's not dumb, as long as that amount of money didn't make you financially insolvent or something. Track your finances and establish a budget if you are surprised by what you have spent now! I always aim for 50-60€ a month (basically 1 new game) across all games I play. I am perfectly fine spending < 100€ a month on games and all the other games I play I either spend nothing or only a small "subscription". In the end, it's all about your financial situation. If you only use the paid gems on the select scouts, you'll get many cool sync pairs on a regular basis, besides all the ones you get with free gems. Then DeNa decided on a daily bundle revamp and I've been getting that one ever since and I don't see myself spending more than the 3,5 - 7€/month ever again on the game - which to me is a fair price to pay the developers. Other than that it has only been the 300 paid gems for 1€. That already pushed me into the 100-500 category. Got the champion+story bundle and 1 bigger master fair offer. Started shortly before Johtrio and went dolphin mode. To hopefully help someone feel a little better:
